Baseball Recap: Weedsport Find Success

After losing to Jordan-Elbridge the last time they met, Weedsport decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wolverines narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Eagles 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted against the Eagles since April 1, 2019.

Nico Giacolone made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Weedsport is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Giacolone was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Giacolone wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Whitman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Weedsport has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Jordan-Elbridge, they moved to 8-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Weedsport will head out to square off against Port Byron at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Jordan-Elbridge, they will square off against Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
