Baseball Recap: Sunlake Extends Winning Streak to Three

Sunlake proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 11) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mitchell Mustangs, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Seahawks have posted since February 18th.

Sunlake got a great performance from Josh Rogerson as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Rogerson has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lucas Zarlenga was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

The win was the third in a row for Sunlake, bringing their record up to 10-8. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only 5.33 in the others. As for Mitchell, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.

Coming up, Sunlake will welcome Cypress Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sunlake 3.4, Cypress Creek 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Mitchell, they will venture away from home to face off against River Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games River Ridge has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
