Houston is 8-2 against Arlington since February of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Houston Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Arlington Tigers at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Houston's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.
Last Saturday, Houston didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Baylor, but they still walked away with a 71-65 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Red Raiders are ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Arlington hadn't done well against Collierville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Arlington blew past Collierville 86-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Tigers have posted since December 13, 2024.
Arlington found their leader in sophomore RJ Tate, who went 9 for 11 on his way to 23 points along with five boards and three steals. Rod Lucas was another key player, dropping a triple-double on 12 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists.
Arlington was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Houston's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.8 points per game. As for Arlington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Houston against Arlington in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 91-56 win. Will Houston repeat their success, or does Arlington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
