Baseball Game Preview: Childress Bobcats vs. Dalhart Wolves

The Childress Bobcats will venture away from home to square off against the Dalhart Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Childress duked it out with River Road on Monday. The Bobcats walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Dalhart ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against River Road, sneaking past 8-7. The win was familiar territory for the Wolves, who have now won three games in a row.

Kevin Rios made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Dalhart is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Rios was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles were his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talon Garcia, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Dalhart's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Kyler Read also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The victory got Dalhart back to even at 8-8. As for Childress, their record now sits at 10-8-1.

Childress skirted past Dalhart 7-6 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
