Basketball Recap: Stone Tomcats vs. Laurel Golden Tornadoes
Stone lost against Laurel last Monday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Stone Tomcats received a blow as they fell 72-54 to the Laurel Golden Tornadoes. While losing is never fun, the Tomcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Golden Tornadoes are ranked 59th).

Despite the defeat, Stone saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brody Farmer shot 4-for-7 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farmer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Scarbrough, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.
Stone has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Laurel, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-7.
Stone wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-58 loss against East Central on the 31st. Laurel does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
