Softball Recap: Pineville Takes a Loss

Pineville fell victim to Clay County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 1-0. The Mountain Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Rachel Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Pineville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6-1. As for Clay County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.

Looking ahead, Pineville will venture away from home to take on South Laurel at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Mountain Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clay County, they will host Southwestern at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
