Baseball Recap: Wayne Triumphs

Wayne took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Palmyra-Macedon, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over the Red Raiders on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Aidan Twist made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Wayne's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kahlen Clark, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Grasso, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Wayne's record is now 7-5. As for Palmyra-Macedon, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-3 record.

Looking ahead, Wayne will take on Honeoye Falls-Lima at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Palmyra-Macedon, they will face off against Midlakes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
