Softball Game Preview: Hanover-Horton Comets vs. Lumen Christi Catholic Titans

The Hanover-Horton Comets will square off against the Lumen Christi Catholic Titans on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hanover-Horton 1.5, Lumen Christi Catholic 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Hanover-Horton and Allen Park finished up on equal footing with a 5-5 tie.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lumen Christi Catholic had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Titans have won 21 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Ollie Powers made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last nine games. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, Bree Okoniewski was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Alison Furnas was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Lumen Christi Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Lumen Christi Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 28-11. Hanover-Horton's draw makes their record 20-3-1 this season.

Hanover-Horton skirted past Lumen Christi Catholic 4-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2016. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
