Basketball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Skates Past Adams City with Ease

Thomas Jefferson was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Adams City on Monday. The Thomas Jefferson Spartans breezed by the Adams City Eagles to the tune of 51-18. The win was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Thomas Jefferson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leyna McClinon led the charge by going 8 of 15 on her way to 16 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Those six steals gave McClinon a new career-high. Phyarlis PeoPles also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Despite the defeat, Adams City had strong showings from Evelyn Reyes, who posted three points and nine rebounds, and Arianna Blue, who put up eight points along with six boards and four steals. Blue is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Thomas Jefferson's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-6. As for Adams City, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Thomas Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 42-22 win against Montbello on the 14th. As for Adams City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 28-25 victory against Thornton on the 14th.
