Softball Recap: Summit Charter Collegiate Academy Bears vs. Orosi Cardinals
Summit Charter Collegiate Academy extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-13 in the process. They lost 17-10 to the Orosi Cardinals. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 1, 2018, but that streak is no more.
As for Orosi, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-18-1. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
For Orosi's part, Miah Lopez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off four hits. Lopez has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Makayla Soto was incredible, going 2-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Krystyn Zamora, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Summit Charter Collegiate Academy will take on Orange Cove at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Orosi, they will square off against Lindsay at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
