Softball Recap: Ithaca/Weston Find Success

Ithaca/Weston proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 14) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over the Pecatonica Vikings.

Jacey Maxwell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kelsea Coleman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maylee Pluemer, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Ithaca/Weston's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Pecatonica, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Ithaca/Weston wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-7 victory against Riverdale on the 2nd. As for Pecatonica, they will square off against New Glarus/Monticello at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
