CIF State Championships: Pleasant Valley boys win Division 3 championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — He just finished a historic win with another superlative contest: 28 points, 13 rebounds, five assists.

Pleasant Valley (Chico) senior Kevin Kremer was as composed in a post-game television interview as he was during a 70-65 win over Notre Dame (Riverside) in the CIF Division 3 championship at the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.

"Hard work pays off," said the 6-foot-5, 210-pound forward. "It's amazing to come into a big (arena) like this and to see all our fans. It feels great to get the job done."



And boy, did the Vikings (32-2) get it done. They led from start to finish, shot 51 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the free throw line.

Did we mention this is an NBA arena?

"It's just another gym," Kramer said. "I was pumped. It was an awesome experience."

Kramer led the charge on the free-throw line, connecting on 13 of 14 from the stripe, helping to hold off a game and energetic Notre Dame squad (33-4), also making its first appearance in a state title game.

Anthony Holland had 21 points for the Titans, who had their 25-game win streak snapped. Dondre Bausley added 16, Pierce Sterling 12 and Anton Morgan 10.

Pleasant Valley, which finished its season on a 19-game win streak, got big games from Jake Rick (14 points), Peyton Schneringerr (12 points) and Treyson Keating (eight points, eight rebounds). The game was tied four times and Pleasant Valley led for 28 minutes, 42 seconds of a 32-minut game.



It was all to the delight of a huge fan base from Chico, who watched the Pleasant Valley girls lose in the state D2 title game to Redondo Union right before the boys game.

Winning or losing didn't matter to the school's most famous alum, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who tweeted out a congratulations before play Saturday.

"I'm blessed to be coaching a team and kids like this," Pleasant Valley coach Tim Keating said. "I honestly feel like I have the best kids in the world."
