Baseball Game Preview: Vista Murrieta Broncos vs. Chaparral Pumas

Vista Murrieta has gone 8-2 against Chaparral recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Broncos are taking a road trip to challenge the Pumas at 3:30 p.m. Vista Murrieta is coming into the match hot, having won their last 11 games.

On Friday, Vista Murrieta got the win against Murrieta Mesa by a conclusive 8-2. Considering the Broncos have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Dylan Berentis tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryland Duson was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of RJ Holmes, who earned one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.

Vista Murrieta hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Chaparral was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Murrieta Valley. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Connor Wetzel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Vista Murrieta pushed their record up to 19-5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chaparral, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.
