John Carroll pushed their score all the way to 71 on Sunday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 78-71 to Goretti. John Carroll has struggled against Goretti recently, as their matchup on Sunday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Calvert Hall's five-game losing streak came to an end on Monday. They skirted past McDonogh 55-52. The victory was all the more spectacular given Calvert Hall's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while McDonogh is ranked 12th).
It was another big night for Brendan Johnson, who scored 26 points. The match was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Maclaren Latoga, who scored eight points.
John Carroll now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Calvert Hall, their victory ended a 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5.
John Carroll was able to grind out a solid win over Calvert Hall when the teams last played back in February, winning 68-60. The rematch might be a little tougher for John Carroll since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
