Softball Recap: Minnechaug Regional Comes Up Short

Minnechaug Regional dropped their record down to 4-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 14-6 to the Pittsfield Generals. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ava Peabody and Veronica Ouimet did some serious damage despite the final result: Peabody went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Ouimet went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Alexa Sherman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Pittsfield, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5. Considering they have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

On Pittsfield's side, Gionnah Levardi made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Those six strikeouts gave Levardi a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Lopez and Paxton Ebling did most of the damage at the plate: Lopez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ebling went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Sadie Aitken was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Minnechaug Regional and Pittsfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings. The Falcons will challenge Westfield at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (78 vs. 9). Meanwhile, Pittsfield (ranked 83rd) will meet Hoosac Valley (ranked 19th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
