Football Recap: West Brunswick Starts off Right with Win over South Brunswick

West Brunswick gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the South Brunswick Cougars with a sharp 34-14 victory. The Trojans have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Josiah Borton looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 96 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 146 yards and one touchdown. Those 96 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Borton was just one part of a punishing run game: West Brunswick was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 306 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Brunswick only rushed for 58 rushing yards.

Although South Brunswick took the loss, they still got scores from Grady Sotriffer and Tyler Johnson.

West Brunswick and South Brunswick could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Trojans (ranked 247th) will meet Whiteville (ranked 82nd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, South Brunswick will take on North Brunswick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (240 vs. 85).
