Volleyball Recap: Avon Falls Despite Big Games from Jordyn Voigt and Lexi Vanderlei

Avon and Corsica/Stickney squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Avon had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 3-2. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Jaguars earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Lexi Vanderlei and Jordyn Voigt certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Vanderlei had 20 digs and two aces, while Voigt had 14 digs and two aces. Voigt has been hot, having posted 13 or more digs the last eight times she's played.

Remi Nelson was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 22 assists and ten digs. That's the most assists she has posted since back in October. Cali Vanden Hoek was another key player, getting 20 digs and one assist.

Avon has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-12 record this season. As for Corsica/Stickney, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 19-12.

Avon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Corsica/Stickney, they will take on Chester on Tuesday.
