Football Recap: Wiley Conner Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Deltona

Matanzas not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 30, 2024 (when they won 28-0). They put the hurt on the Deltona Wolves with a sharp 40-14 win. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won three in a row.

Matanzas' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wiley Conner, who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave Conner a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Cole Walker was another key signal caller, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

Although Deltona took the loss, they still got scores from Brody Creel and Jeremiah Hancock.

Matanzas now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Deltona, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Matanzas has already played their next match, a 36-14 victory against Andrew Jackson on the 12th. As for Deltona, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on DeLand at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th.
