Recap: Wilcox Central Jaguars vs. Central of Coosa County Cougars
The Wilcox Central Jaguars had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They took down Central of Coosa County 66-52. Given Wilcox Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Central of Coosa County is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Despite the loss, Central of Coosa County still got an impressive performance from Majavius Culpepper, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. Lacorrian Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Wilcox Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Central of Coosa County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.
Wilcox Central will be home for the holidays to greet Southside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southside is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. Central of Coosa County and Midfield will face off at 7:15 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Midfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
