Baseball Recap: Monroe Township Comes Up Short

Monroe Township had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-11 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Spotswood Chargers by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Falcons have suffered since April 17th.

Monroe Township saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Linke, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base. Linke is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

As for Spotswood, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Spotswood's side, Carter Cumiskey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Cumiskey was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Monroe Township will head out to challenge Toms River South at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Spotswood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South River at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
