ZAPATA, Texas - After swapping the lead two times,
Zapata (Texas) took the lead for the win when
Leo Salinas ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Raymondville (Texas) 46-27.
The Hawks led 21-14 at halftime, but the Bearkats regained the lead on a touchdown with 4:00 remaining in the third.
Zapata saw its 7-point halftime lead fall to six entering the fourth.
Miguel Alvarez and
Raul Ruiz ran for a bunch of touchdowns for Raymondville. Alvarez scored three touchdowns on the ground and Ruiz added two as well.
ZHS avenged last year's 33-14 loss to RHS with the victory.
The loss comes after Raymondville defeated Grulla 35-21 last week. The win was a nice bounce back for the Hawks, who lost to King last week, 21-7. The victory ended Zapata's two-game losing streak.
Zapata (3-5) goes up against Lyford in a 3A Region IV District 31 game matchup next week, while Raymondville (5-3) locks horns with King also in a 3A Region IV District 31 game.
