Softball Recap: Damascus Snags 11th Win in Last 12 Games

Damascus had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Centennial Eagles 13-3 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 14 contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Ana DiGiandomenico made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those five hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kailyn Sheahin was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amaya Hammond, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Damascus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .528. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .406 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Damascus is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Damascus beat the Eagles by a score of 13-3 on Thursday.
