Softball Recap: Katella Knights vs. Costa Mesa Mustangs
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chaparral, Katella was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Costa Mesa Mustangs as Katella made off with a 16-7 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2018.
Jackie Morelos and Dani Neville made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Morelos pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Neville struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those hits were her first of the season. At bat, Morelos scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while Neville got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, Neville posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Krystal Barrios was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Nataly Rodarte was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Katella always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory got Katella back to even at 6-6. As for Costa Mesa, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.
Coming up, Katella will venture away from home to challenge Corona at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Costa Mesa, they will welcome Westminster at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be Costa Mesa's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
