Basketball Recap: Tygarts Valley Bulldogs vs. Union Tigers

Even though the Tygarts Valley Bulldogs have not done well against the Union Tigers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Tygarts Valley walked away with a 44-35 victory over the Tigers. The win made it back-to-back wins for Tygarts Valley.

Tygarts Valley found their leader in underclassman Sarah Defibaugh, who scored 18 points along with four steals and four blocks. Defibaugh continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Emily Smith was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Union lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chanda Gaither, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gaither has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lexi Stahl, who scored 13 points along with two steals.

Tygarts Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Union, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tygarts Valley will take on the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pocahontas County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 40 on Monday. As for Union, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m.
