Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Annapolis

Annapolis hadn't done well against Chesapeake recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Everything went the Annapolis Panthers' way against the Chesapeake Cougars as the Annapolis Panthers made off with a 58-38 win. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Annapolis was led to victory by Audrey Skinner and Mckenzie Fuller. Skinner posted 19 points and six steals, while Fuller almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Skinner also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Catherine King, who had two points along with 12 boards and four steals.

Despite the loss, Chesapeake had strong showings from Kiery Matkins, who earned 15 points and seven rebounds, and Allison Schaefer, who scored six points and five boards. Matkins has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Ella Cieri also deserves some recognition as she posted her first blocks of the season.

The victory (which was Annapolis' fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.0 points per game. As for Chesapeake, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 10-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Annapolis will venture away from home to take on Broadneck at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Broadneck will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Annapolis surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chesapeake, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Chesapeake Cougars challenge the Arundel Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chesapeake is facing Arundel at the right time seeing as Arundel is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
