Soccer Recap: Ironwood Ridge Takes a Loss

Ironwood Ridge was the 1-1 winner over Salpointe Catholic when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks fell 2-0 to the Salpointe Catholic Lancers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Nighthawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Lancers are ranked 18th).

This is the second loss in a row for Ironwood Ridge and nudges their season record down to 9-6. As for Salpointe Catholic, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Ironwood Ridge will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Cactus Shadows at 6:00 p.m. on February 18th. Cactus Shadows will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Ironwood Ridge surely won't give up without a fight. As for Salpointe Catholic, they didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next game, a 1-0 victory against Walden Grove on the 11th.
