Basketball Recap: Pine Lake Prep Falls Despite Big Games from Tabitha Schmedes and Sophie Chilton

Pine Lake Prep had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-3 to make it five. They took a 61-43 bruising from the Christ the King Crusaders. The Pride lost against the Crusaders in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 65-8 score last time.

Sophie Chilton and Tabitha Schmedes certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Chilton posted 13 points and five boards, while Schmedes dropped a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.

As for Christ the King, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points over those games.

Christ the King found their leader in sophomore Anna Haynes, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Haynes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lucy Gorman, who put up six points along with six assists and six steals.

Looking ahead, Pine Lake Prep will venture away from home to take on Statesville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Christ the King, they will host Union Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
