The Wickliffe Blue Devils will square off against the South Rebels at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Wickliffe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Wickliffe after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Crestwood by a score of 5-4.
Leigha Blazetic put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Audrey Musgrave made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, South came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Raiders a 10-0 shutout. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Like Wickliffe, South also got a great game from a two-way player: Halle Zupancic. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Zupancic was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Jenna Heil was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Ava Proctor was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
South's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Wickliffe, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wickliffe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Wickliffe's way against South in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Wickliffe made off with a 7-1 win. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
