The Caverna Colonels will head out to take on the Metcalfe County Hornets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Caverna came out on top against Fort Knox on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Colonels never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Colonels have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Adreana Salvador was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caverna got a big performance out of Dallia Wood, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Wood has posted over her last ten games. Jayanah Nuckols was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Caverna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Knox only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Metcalfe County). They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Warren Central on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.
Like Caverna, Metcalfe County also got a great game from a two-way player: Harper Hurt. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Hurt was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, LeeElla Boles was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Emma Groce, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI.
Caverna's record is now 13-14. As for Metcalfe County, their record now sits at 6-17.
Metcalfe County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Caverna has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. It's a different story for Metcalfe County, though, as they've only averaged .319. Will they be able to contain Caverna's hitters?
Caverna skirted past Metcalfe County 9-8 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colonels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
