Softball Game Preview: Hermitage Panthers vs. Varina Blue Devils

The Hermitage Panthers are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the Varina Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Hermitage is leaving town to face Varina after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. Hermitage fell just short of Highland Springs by a score of 9-8 on Monday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

Meanwhile, Varina sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 19-18 victory over Hopewell on Tuesday. Varina hasn't had any issues with Hopewell recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Julia Anderson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, six RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Rylee Geer was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her six plate appearances.

Everything went Hermitage's way against Varina in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Hermitage made off with a 10-4 victory. Will Hermitage repeat their success, or does Varina have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
