Softball Recap: Monroe Central Golden Bears vs. Northeastern Knights
Monroe Central had lost ten straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-17 to make it 11. They lost 12-1 to the Northeastern Knights. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Golden Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.
Monroe Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Raegan Quattlebaum, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Northeastern, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Northeastern, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
On Northeastern's side, Makayla Hopkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Russell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Isabella Peed also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Looking ahead, Monroe Central will head out on the road to face off against Madison-Grant at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northeastern, they will welcome Union City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
