Softball Game Preview: West Islip Lions vs. Smithtown West

The West Islip Lions will head out to face off against Smithtown West at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. West Islip will be strutting in after a win while Smithtown West will be coming in after a defeat.

West Islip was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Bellport on Wednesday. The Lions put the hurt on the Clippers with a sharp 10-0 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Meanwhile, Smithtown West didn't have quite enough to beat Comsewogue on Wednesday and fell 4-3.

West Islip pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Smithtown West, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

West Islip came out on top in a nail-biter against Smithtown West in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
