Baseball Recap: Laville Starts off Right with Win over South Bend Riley

LaVille took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the South Bend Riley Wildcats as they made off with a 10-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Lancers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Brayden Schwitz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schwitz was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, LaVille let Caleb Howard and Griffen Smith run wild. Howard scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Smith scored a run while going 1-for-1. Those two runs gave Howard a new career-high. Karson Quinn was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

LaVille always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Riley only posted an OBP of .143.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. LaVille will venture away from home to square off against Mishawaka Marian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Bend Riley, they will head out to face off against La Lumiere at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
