Basketball Recap: Navajo Pine Comes Up Short

Navajo Pine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 71-55 to the Laguna Acoma Hawks. The Warriors were down 58-31 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the defeat, Navajo Pine saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Anthony Sandoval went 6-for-14 to rack up 18 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sandoval has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chad Tsosie, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Navajo Pine was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Navajo Pine's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Laguna Acoma, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 9-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Navajo Pine will venture away from home to take on Rehoboth Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Rehoboth Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests. As for Laguna Acoma, they will head out on the road to challenge Hozho Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
