Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Holmes County's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Walton, Holmes County was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Everything went their way against Tift County as they made off with a 15-4 win. The result was nothing new for Holmes County, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Colby Powell and Bryant Mathis did most of the damage at the plate: Powell scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Mathis scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Egan Segers, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Holmes County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Holmes County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Tift County, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.

Holmes County and Tift County should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. The Blue Devils (ranked 37th) will meet Liberty County (ranked 442nd) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Tift County will face off against Taylor County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (18 vs. 363).
