Softball Recap: Baker Wins Going Away Against Laurel Hill

Baker never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Laurel Hill on Monday. They blew past the Hoboes 16-0. Considering the Gators have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emily Whiddon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Bendickson, who went 1-for-3 with six RBI and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Michayla Rose was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Baker was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Baker is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Laurel Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Baker didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-10 defeat against Freeport on the 15th. As for Laurel Hill, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 21-1 loss against Florala on the 17th.
