Softball Game Preview: Cranberry Area Berries vs. Franklin Knights

The Cranberry Area Berries will venture away from home to face off against the Franklin Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Cranberry Area can't be to happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Saturday. They lost 18-7 to DuBois.

Meanwhile, Franklin unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cambridge Springs on Wednesday.

Jersey Swartz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, Abigail Boland made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Laderer, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
