Preview: Permian Panthers vs. San Angelo Central Bobcats
The Permian Panthers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the San Angelo Central Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Permian's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four games.
Permian pushed their score all the way to 44 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Frenship by a score of 46-44. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (32), Permian still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Permian got a solid performance out of Juzstyce Lara, who rushed for 218 yards. Lara was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 53 yards. Issac Herrera was another key contributor, rushing for 83 yards.
Meanwhile, San Angelo Central's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 66-24 loss at the hands of Midland Legacy. While losing is never fun, San Angelo Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 360th, while Midland Legacy is ranked 48th).
Despite the defeat, San Angelo Central got a solid performance out of Christian English, who threw for 266 yards and a touchdown, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. English hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for five straight games.
Permian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for San Angelo Central, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7.
Permian beat San Angelo Central 43-31 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was San Angelo Central's Tyler Hill, who threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Permian to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
