Football Recap: Southern Starts Season with Victory Against Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer

Southern had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer Titans with a sharp 50-26 victory. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.

Southern's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carsen Goes, who rushed for 114 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 114 rushing yards gave Goes a new career-high. Koltan Ideus also helped with three scores in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southern was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 218 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer only rushed for 107 rushing yards.

Southern didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Paxx Adams.

Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Alex Dewberry, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 87 yards and one TD on only nine carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Another player making a difference was Kameon Dettmann, who picked up 124 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Looking ahead, Southern will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Johnson County Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer, they will venture away from home to face off against Omaha Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
