Softball Recap: Conner Wins Going Away Against Beechwood

Conner never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past the Beechwood Tigers 16-0. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

Ellie Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Ortiz, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Bre Meredith was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Conner's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-13. As for Beechwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.

Coming up, Conner will square off against St. Ursula Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Beechwood, they will face off against Holy Cross at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
