Baseball Game Preview: Kellis Cougars vs. Willow Canyon Wildcats

For the second straight game, Kellis will face off against Willow Canyon. The Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Kellis has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 12.

It was a proper cat-fight when Kellis challenged Willow Canyon on Monday. The Cougars came up short against the Wildcats, falling 19-1.

For Willow Canyon's part, Caleb Lemau looked comfortable as he struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave Lemau a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cameron Davidson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Willow Canyon's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't). Paxton Blair was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Willow Canyon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Willow Canyon has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Kellis, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11-1.
