Baseball Game Preview: East Wilkes Cardinals vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears

East Wilkes hasn't had much luck against Mount Airy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The East Wilkes Cardinals will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Mount Airy Granite Bears at 6:30 p.m. Mount Airy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on East Wilkes, who comes in off a win.

East Wilkes is headed out to face Mount Airy after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. East Wilkes had just enough and edged out North Wilkes 4-3 on Friday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Dalton Wood and Elijah Johnson dominated on the mound. Wood struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits, while Johnson struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits Johnson has allowed since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Mount Airy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Surry Central, falling 11-2. One positive for the Granite Bears, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

East Wilkes suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Mount Airy in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can East Wilkes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
