Football Recap: Joshua Douthard and Landyn Smith Secure Win for St. Clair County

After losing to Montgomery Catholic the last time they met, St. Clair County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Fighting Saints took down the Knights 42-28 on Friday.

A big part of St. Clair County's victory came down to the chemistry between Landyn Smith and his top target Joshua Douthard. Smith threw for 335 yards and six TDs while Douthard picked up 135 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Smith is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tra'Vell Jones, who picked up 106 receiving yards and one score.

Despite the loss, Montgomery Catholic had strong showings from Michael Sheffield, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and Cj Sankey, who threw for 228 yards and three touchdowns.

St. Clair County's record is now 2-0. As for Montgomery Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

St. Clair County and Montgomery Catholic will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Fighting Saints are set to challenge their familiar foe Moody at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th. Meanwhile, Montgomery Catholic will take on rival Eufaula at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
