Basketball Game Preview: Carlin Railroaders vs. Jackpot Jaguars

Carlin is 1-9 against Jackpot since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Carlin Railroaders will face off against the Jackpot Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Carlin is headed into Wednesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Wells, falling 50-24. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Railroaders have suffered against the Leopards since February 14, 2020.

The losing side was boosted by Leonidas Krantz, who posted 14 points. That was a full 58.3% of Carlin's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Layne Martin also deserves some recognition as he scored his first point of the season.

Meanwhile, Jackpot came up short against Owyhee on Saturday and fell 47-40.

Carlin will have to contain Jorge Avila as he made an impact in Jackpot's last game. He dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 boards. Avila is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Angel Martinez, who earned 14 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Jackpot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Carlin's record is now 3-16. As for Jackpot, their record is now 9-7.

Carlin suffered a grim 47-26 defeat to Jackpot in their previous matchup on Friday. Can Carlin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
