Basketball Game Preview: Hawley Bearcats vs. Seymour Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Bearcats challenge the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Hawley took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Stamford with a sharp 60-38 win. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Bearcats considering their 30-point performance the game before.

Meanwhile, Seymour waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with 14 straight wins... but they left with 15. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 68-32 victory over the Wildcats. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 327th, while the Wildcats are ranked 1378th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hawley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points over those games. As for Seymour, they pushed their record up to 28-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Hawley came up short against Seymour in their previous meeting back in February of 2021, falling 60-49. Can Hawley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
