Mason City took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Ames, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mohawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Little Cyclones on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Mohawks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Mason City's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-11. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Ames, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 24-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Little Cyclones beat Mason City by a score of 9-2 later that day.
