Softball Recap: Heritage Academy Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Heritage Academy came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Maricopa Institute of Technology a 26-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Heroes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Addy Gillespie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gillespie was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Heritage Academy got a massive performance out of Jordyn Taylor, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. The dominant performance gave Taylor a new career-high in runs. Maya Zappa was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Heritage Academy pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Heritage Academy will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Imagine Prep Coolidge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Maricopa Institute of Technology, they will venture away from home to square off against Heritage Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
