Basketball Recap: West Florida Comes Up Short

West Florida and Pensacola squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but West Florida had to settle for second. They lost to the Pensacola Tigers on the road by a 54-36 margin. The Jaguars have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, West Florida saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Amani Bartholomew almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. Bartholomew has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Pensacola found their leader in sophomore Chioma Patterson, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Patterson a new career-high in steals (seven). Zion Perkins was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.

West Florida's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Pensacola, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8.

Looking ahead, West Florida will challenge Ribault at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Ribault will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something West Florida surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pensacola, they have already played their next matchup, a 37-33 defeat against Fort Walton Beach on the 8th.
