Football Game Preview: Canyon Springs Cougars vs. Lakeside Lancers

The Canyon Springs Cougars will square off against the Lakeside Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Lakeside likes a good challenge.

On Thursday, Canyon Springs came up short against Heritage and fell 40-31. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Cougars, who until this contest were averaging 10.5 points allowed.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Andre Larry and Hayden Hill. Hill had a great game and gained 333 total yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Larry was balling out in the loss, rushing for 185 yards and three scores on only 13 carries.

Even if they lost, Canyon Springs' defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Howard Smith Jr., David Garza, and Joshua Leyva, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Lakeside had taken Perris down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Lancers took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The matchup marked the Lancers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Canyon Springs fell to 5-1. As for Lakeside, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Everything came up roses for Canyon Springs against Lakeside in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 53-12 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
