Preview: Cedar Hill Longhorns vs. Weiss Wolves
The Cedar Hill Longhorns will take on the Weiss Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, everything came up roses for Cedar Hill at home against Lake Ridge as the team secured a 37-6 victory. Given Cedar Hill's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Lake Ridge is ranked 437th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cedar Hill's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dayshun Reese, who rushed for 127 yards on only 11 carries. Anthony Edwards was another key contributor, throwing for 178 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Weiss got the win against Hutto last Thursday by a conclusive 52-29. The win was just what Weiss needed coming off of a 41-17 defeat in their prior contest.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Jax Brown and Will Hammond. Brown had a great game and threw for 322 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.5% of his passes. Meanwhile, Hammond was balling out in the loss, rushing for 164 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Cedar Hill has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Weiss, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Cedar Hill has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 214.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Weiss struggles in that department as they've been averaging 175 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
